API & Automated Access Policy

Daff App provides public read-only reference access for daffodil search and discovery. Automated access is allowed only if it is respectful, read-only, and does not harm the service or bypass controls.

1. Scope

This policy applies to /api/v1/daffodils/search, /openapi.json, /.well-known/api-catalog, public pages, public media routes, and other automated access to daff.app. It does not allow access to private, authenticated, admin, upload, moderation, or account-only endpoints.

2. Permitted Uses

  • public search and reference use;
  • indexing public pages;
  • reading public API responses;
  • research and educational use;
  • respectful bot, AI, and search access;
  • linking to public Daff App pages;
  • using public CC BY 4.0 photos according to their license;
  • citing Daff App records where practical.

3. Attribution and Source Preservation

Where practical, credit Daff App as a source, preserve source citations shown by Daff App, preserve photo attribution and CC BY 4.0 license information, and avoid implying endorsement by Daff App.

4. Prohibited Automated Access

  • high-volume scraping that degrades service;
  • bypassing rate limits or security controls;
  • accessing private or authenticated endpoints;
  • harvesting account data;
  • probing for vulnerabilities;
  • uploading spam or abusive files;
  • ignoring robots or access controls if implemented;
  • misrepresenting Daff App data as official or guaranteed;
  • using Daff App infrastructure in a way that violates law or third-party rights.

5. Rate Limits and Blocking

Daff App may rate-limit, throttle, block, challenge, or restrict automated access. Daff App may require API keys in the future and may change or discontinue API endpoints. Contact support@daff.app for higher-volume or special access.

6. Public Content and AI Systems

Public pages, public API responses, and public photo pages may be indexed, analyzed, copied, or used as input by automated systems, including search engines and AI systems. Use of public photos must follow CC BY 4.0. Pending uploads, private originals, account data, and moderation data are not public API content.

7. No Warranty

API data may be incomplete, stale, incorrect, or unavailable. Vendor availability and cultivar data may be inaccurate. Daff App does not guarantee API uptime, stability, schema permanence, or data accuracy.
