Empress

1 W-YTrumpet

Description

Empress has 103 mm flowers with substantial, ovate, spreading perianth segments that overlap by one-third; the inner segments turn slightly inward and have wavy margins. Its rich yellow corona is narrowly funnel-shaped and ribbed, opening to an expanded, six-lobed, lightly frilled mouth with a flanged, crenate rim. Historical descriptions place its flowering later than 'Horsfieldii' and report a more rapid increase, while an RHS parental note identifies it as a hybrid between N. bicolor and N. pseudonarcissus.
