Description

Llanfair has 95 mm, upward-facing flowers whose brilliant greenish-yellow perianth matures to greenish white, retaining a narrow greenish-yellow basal band and pale-yellow flush around a pink corona. The 45 mm perianth segments are broadly ovate and blunt with small pointed tips; the substantial, slightly creased outer segments reflex and overlap by half, while the narrower inner segments spread or reflex slightly with incurved margins. Its smooth, cylindrical corona is 45 mm long, opening into a flared, lightly frilled, markedly lobed mouth with a crenate, subtly accented rim. The sweetly scented flowers bloom early, and Cees Kuiper named the cultivar for a Welsh village whose name was stated to mean “Saint Mary’s Church.”
