Description
Ornatus bears 64 mm flowers with pure white, spreading perianth segments whose wavy margins separate at the base and overlap at the shoulder; the inner segments are strongly recurved at the base, appearing somewhat spathulate. The ribbed, disc-shaped corona is brilliant greenish yellow, shaded green at the base and edged at the rim by a narrow red band. Flowering from mid-season to late, this French selection was introduced circa 1870 by James Walker; it is also listed as “Poeticus ‘Ornatus’” and was mistakenly called “The Flat Crowned Saffron Rim.”
