Description
King Alfred has 98 mm vivid yellow flowers, with a corona slightly deeper in tone than the perianth. The substantial perianth segments are twisted: the blunt, oblong outer segments curve inward and overlap by a quarter, while the ovate inner segments are more nearly acute and more strongly twisted. Its smooth, cylindrical corona opens into a widely flanged, deeply notched rim, while tall stems rise above stout, glaucous foliage; an 1899 account reported that the flower received a First-class Certificate.
